COLUMBUS, Ohio — An inmate shaved some time off of consecutive sentences for theft, shoplifting, criminal mischief, and more by giving a heartfelt apology to the judge and those in the courtroom.

“I would like to apologize to Wal-Mart and its employees, the public, people at the Platte County Detention Facility (since I’ve been there), Smokers Outlet and my parents,” Blaize Warnick said, after Platte County Court Judge Frank Skorupa gave him a thorough scolding, according to The Columbus Telegram.

Warnick said he had been battling a drug problem.

“I realize I have a bad problem with drugs. I don’t wish to have this problem control my life any longer. Thank you for allowing me to speak.”

Skorupa shaved 35 days off of Warnick’s sentence since arrest in June.
