CORPUS CHRISTI — Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against a man accused of fatally shooting his wife in front of their young son.

The capital murder trial for Jesse Perales is scheduled to start Oct. 26 in 105th District Judge Jack Pulcher’s court.

The indictment accuses Perales of breaking into his estranged wife Krystal Perales’ home and retaliating against her on Feb. 23, 2014, in her Flour Bluff home. Perales was arrested on suspicion of sexual assaulting her before the shooting.

The couple’s son told police his father said he would kill his mother and then himself, according to police reports.

Krystal Perales’ death was part of a trend seen in last year’s 25 criminal homicides, half of which stemmed from domestic violence.

Capital murder is punishable by life in prison or the death penalty.
