RACINE — A Racine woman said in court on Thursday that she simply was trying to record violations occurring at a day care center when she filmed three toddlers attacking a fourth child there.
But recording the toddler fight on April 12, 2013, at Bundles of Blessings Kids Kare — and not first intervening to stop it — prompted a judge on Thursday to sentence Krystina L. Woods to serve 363 days in the Racine County Jail and two years on probation. Woods is one of two former day care workers accused of allowing three toddlers to attack a fourth last year and then posting a video of the fight online.
“I was trying to capture a situation,” Woods, 25, said during her sentencing. “I also know the issues the day care was having were bigger than me and I should have sought help.”
Calling it a “terrible situation, terrible crime,” Racine County Circuit Judge Allan “Pat” Torhorst also sentenced Woods to one year in prison plus two years on extended supervision, but those two terms were stayed. That means they won’t kick in unless she violates probation.
