BELGIUM — In a country with no death penalty, a rapist and murderer has been given permission for medically assisted suicide later this week.
ITV reports that Frank Van Den Bleeken has been imprisoned for 30 years and has complained about a lack of treatment for his condition.
Since there is no prospect of release due to his inability to overcome his violent sexual impulses, he has advocated for death for some time.
A spokeswoman for the Belgian justice minister Koren Geens said, “Euthanasia will indeed be implemented. The time has come.”
