WILTON, N.Y. — An inmate at Mount McGregor Correctional Facility is being treated at Albany Medical Center Hospital after being injured during a fight with other inmates Friday.

The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision confirmed Sunday that an incident is being investigated which involved three inmates, two of whom were treated in the prison’s infirmary for minor injuries. The condition of the third inmate at Albany Med is unknown.

Mount McGregor correction officer Richard Thomas, who is a union steward with the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association, said Sunday that the fight is indicative of consolidation going on at the prison, which the state is planning to close next year. Dorms, or units, are being shuttered, and double bunking has occurred in remaining dorms, Thomas said. The union steward said the three involved inmates were stabbed.
