GERING, Neb. — A police organization has raised money for the care and upbringing of CO Amanda Baker’s son.
Amanda Baker was strangled to death in February after being lured into a cell by juvenile inmates.
She left behind a son, six-year-old David, who has been cared for by his extended family, according to KOTA TV.
This past weekend, police organization Tour-de-Force raised $5,000 to help offset the costs of raising David. Representative Brenda Anderson presented the Baker family with the check.
Tour-de-Force raises funds for families of police officers killed in the line of duty nationwide.
“You have to bite your pride and admit you’re grieving, and that brings up a raw sore again,” said Amanda’s mother, Julie, who was overwhelmed by the support. “But you know what, when you have people like Brenda, Mark, Ron, all of them to be able to cry on their shoulders, it’s a big thing. Thank you.”
David says that when he grows up, he wants to be a police officer.
