BOP expands prison pepper spray program

The second anniversary of CO Eric William’s murder saw the program for prison employee safety expand

WAYMART — The second anniversary of the death of correctional officer Eric Williams saw the Bureau of Prisons expand its new pepper spray program intended to provide protection for prison staff.

The Citizen’s Voice reports that pepper spray will now be available to all staff in high and medium security facilities.

Eric Williams was killed on February 25, 2013, when he was working alone and armed only with a radio, keys and handcuffs while overseeing about 130 inmates. He was beaten and stabbed to death at the United States Penitentiary at Canaan.
