COLUMBIA, S.C. — A Department of Juvenile Justice employee was arrested and charged for providing contraband to youth, according to a DJJ press release.
An investigation by the department revealed that 29-year-old Amanda Brown, a juvenile correction officer, was giving inmates prohibited items, including a vape pen that she concealed using duct tape.
Brown was dismissed from her position. She was charged with three crimes: contributing to the delinquency of a minor, furnishing to a juvenile in DJJ and misconduct in office, according to DJJ.
Brown was arrested and booked at Alvin S. Glen Detention Center on Tuesday. She is now out on bond.
“Providing youth in the care of DJJ with contraband is unacceptable,” DJJ Executive Director Eden Hendrick said in a press release. “We will not allow the poor judgment of one employee to overshadow the outstanding work that others perform daily.”
