LONDON — The female officer attacked by an inmate while escorting him from a court house to a waiting transport vehicle has died.
The Standard reports that Lorraine Barwell suffered severe head injuries in the attack, and her family gave permission to have her removed from life support.
Humphrey Burke, 22, was appearing in court for a charge of GBH. He could now face a new charge of murder or manslaughter.
Barwell’s son, Jason, said that their lives had been ripped apart by the incident. Her niece, Hannah, wrote on Facebook: “Rest in peace auntie Lorraine, sweet dreams.”
