Six corrections professionals from across the country have been selected to receive One Voice United’s 2025 National Corrections Medal of Honor, following a nomination process that drew 94 submissions from 24 states.
The recipients were chosen by a five-member independent volunteer committee led by retired Captain Eric Spierer, formerly of the New Jersey Department of Corrections Juvenile Division.
The honorees and one guest each will be flown to Atlantic City for a three-day, two-night stay to attend the organization’s awards banquet and ceremony on May 1, 2026. The event will cap One Voice United’s three-day “Elevating Our Profession” conference, scheduled for April 29 through May 1 at the Tropicana hotel.
According to the organization, the conference is free to attend, though registration is required through One Voice United’s website.
The 2025 recipients are:
Gold Medal of Honor
Sergeant Julie Teague, Moberly Correctional Center, Moberly, Missouri
Silver Medal of Honor
Corrections Officer Obbie Johnson, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Jacksonville, Florida
Bronze Medal of Honor
Lieutenant Tyler Gaines, Dick Conner Correctional Center, Hominy, Oklahoma
Excellence in Corrections Award
Corrections Case Manager Dana Mueller, Colorado Territorial Correctional Facility, Canon City, Colorado
Supervisor of the Year
John Coleman, North Carolina Correctional Enterprises, Raleigh, North Carolina
Lifetime Achievement Award
Thomas White, Ocala, Florida
The awards program honors correctional officers, probation and parole officers, supervisors, administrators and non-custody staff. One Voice United said the awards were designed to recognize professionals whose work often goes unseen, despite the critical role they play in public safety.
