SUNBURY, Pa. — At least 11 sites have been identified for the construction of a new Northumberland County jail, after the previous one burned down.
The sites include Brush Valley Region land near SCI-Coal Twp., the former Knight-Celotex property in Sunbury, the former Kirsch Window Treatment near Elysburg, the former Teen Challenge along Snydertown Road, the former Jeld-Wen Doors and Windows in Sunbury and the Sunbury Armory, reports the Daily Item.
Five other sites are being discussed with private individuals, but those talks are confidential at present.
The only site to offer resistance to the idea of a prison is that of the Brush Valley land.
Commissioner Rick Shoch is also not ruling out the damaged prison. His focus is within the city limits or right outside due to the logistics of Sunbury being the county seat with the courthouse.
