SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. — A van carrying eight inmates was hit head-on early Sunday by a driver going the wrong way on Interstate 10 in Suwannee County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. One person received critical injuries, another had serious injuries and the others all had minor injuries, troopers said.
In a news release, FHP Sgt. Tracy Hisler-Pace wrote that the crash happened at 4 a.m. on Interstate 10 near westbound mile marker 291, which is about a mile northwest of Suwannee County Road 137.
The inmates were in a 2011 Chevrolet van owned by PTS of America, LLC, which identifies itself as “The nation’s largest prisoner extradition company and one of the largest international transporters of detainees.”
