ADAMS COUNTY — More details have been released on the armed man shot outside the Adams County Jail.
PennLive reports that the man was brandishing a pistol and fired off several rounds outside the lobby area. Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Robert Hicks said that the man, whose identity has not been made public, fired between six to 10 rounds into the ground outside of the prison before authorities arrived.
The man was white, has no criminal record and no connection to the prison, according to Hicks.
According to ABC News, the man was dressed in camouflage and arrived at the prison via bicycle. He entered the lobby of the prison and pointed a gun at a correctional officer, then left.
“She had a calm demeanor and we felt that had a major impact on no violence occurring within the lobb,” said Adams County District Attorney Shawn Wagner.
The man was armed with a handgun, an AR-15 rifle and a hunting knife. He was said to be carrying in excess of 100 rounds between both firearms.
He was shot in the upper torso after he refused to obey commands from police. He was shot in the ipper torso when he pointed the rifle at the jail.
The prison has since resumed normal operations.
