MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. — About 275 officers met for the 7th annual “Survival Conference,” hosted by the Monterey County Joint Gang Task Force, on Friday.

Gang Task Force Cmdr. Stan Cooper told The Californian that the conference provides a venue where participants learn about current trends, receive new information in dealing with gangs and have an opportunity to network with others in the field.

“We’re giving officers the tools to make them as successful as they can be and basically survive their time in gang investigations,” Cooper said.

One of this year’s topics included an update to the state’s prison realignment plan, drop-out gangs and prison gangs.

As in years past, the conference is free to law enforcement and comes at no expense to the task force, thanks to donations.
