HUMBOLDT, Calif. — The 16-year-old Juvenile Hall escapee who’s eluded law enforcement numerous times, even after being shot under mysterious circumstances, is still at large.
“Hopefully, he will come into custody soon,” said Doug Rasines, head of the Humboldt County Probation Department.
Byron Titus escaped from Juvenile Hall in late October by scaling a wall with another inmate, Pedro Aguilar, 16.
They were seen running into the woods and did not resurface until about a week later, when law enforcement tracked them down in the Hoopa area.
Aguilar was caught, but Titus was able to escape, even after a perimeter was been set up complete with a California Highway Patrol helicopter and a K-9 unit.
About one week later, Titus showed up at Mad River Hospital with a gunshot wound that was three days old.
He was taken into custody at the hospital, but remained there to be treated.
Police said they were having a difficult time investigating the shooting injury because no one was giving them any information.
Two days later, Titus escaped from the hospital and hasn’t been seen since.
