DETROIT, Mich. — A charity hockey game between police and corrections raised money for the education of two boys whose father, a corrections officer, was killed in front of his home.
The Voice News reports that the game raised $2,800 to benefit the children of Clarence Tariq Hammond III, who was shot and killed outside his apartment in 2012 during an apparent robbery.
The game was organized by the Mich. Department of Corrections and pitted the Detroit Police Chiefs against the MDOC Black Knights. The Chiefs won 8-3. Corrections officers were represented by 104 players who gathered from across the state to support the event.
