DAKOTA COUNTY, Minn. — t looked like an art room for almost two hours last week, with bright red stockings, decorations, paste and eager helpers.
But this was not an elementary school art room. It was the program room at the Dakota County Jail. The helpers were inmates who decorated 60 stockings, making them ready to be filled with Christmas goodies. The stockings would then be delivered to the residents at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings.
The Christmas stockings are a project that originated years ago with Gaby Postiglione, Adult Basic Education coordinator with Hastings Community Education, and her mother. They and several others’ children filled the stockings and distributed them to different nursing homes. Now, it is gaining momentum each year.
