IRON COUNTY, Mo. — Sheriff Roger Medley and the Iron County Commission are discussing some options dealing with high temperatures in the old section of the county’s Civil War era jail.

The attention of the press has been focused on temperatures which have topped 100 degrees in the cells as the sheriff requested assistance from neighboring counties to house inmates in other facilities.

Medley noted that they still have to keep some prisoners separated and air conditioning, if affordable, would be a tremendous help.

Unless the situation is rectified, inmates will still need to be housed with other facilities in neighboring counties for a cost of at least $37.50 per day.
