MCKINLEY COUNTY, NM — A New Mexico corrections officer was killed in a single vehicle rollover on his way to work.

The New Mexico Department of Public Safety reports that Tyran Brown, of the New Mexico Women’s Correctional Facility, was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to his injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt.

According to authorities, it seems that the vehicle was going eastbound on the I40 when it drove off the roadway onto the center median. This caused the vehicle to skid, ultimately causing the rollover.

Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor, and the investigation is ongoing.
