YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, NY — Three corrections officers, an NYPD officer and the Superintendent of Security were all on hand when an employee of the Mahansic Golf Club collapsed to the ground in cardiac arrest.

According to the NYSCOPBA, the officers rushed over to the victim and found that he didn’t have a pulse. NYPD officer Derek Bernard ran to retrieve an AED while corrections officers James Moore, Tai Tedder, ret. CO Chuck Koemm and Superintendent of Security Roy Snyder began CPR.

All excluding the NYPD officer are staff of the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility.

Bernard returned with the AED and a shock was applied to the victim. By the time EMS arrived, the man had a pulse.

The man is currently hospitalized but his condition is improving.

“The quick and alert actions of all the men that responded that day at Mahansic Golf Course was instrumental in saving the life of a cherished life-long employee at the golf course. I am extremely proud of our current and retired NYSCOPBA members whose actions certainly saved the life of the victim that day.

“Everyone came together for a fun day of golf and to support a great cause. In addition to the cause that day, the heroic actions taken by all those involved surely will have positive impact on the victim’s family.

“We wish the victim a full and speedy recovery,” stated Southern Region Vice President Willie Perez.

The officers were attending the Thomas Fitzgerald Memorial Golf Tournament, which benefits a charity set up for the son of retired Bedford Hills Deputy Superintendent of Security Thomas Fitzgerald. His son died of cancer several years ago.
