NEW YORK — A former Department of Corrections employee has been arrested after being overheard making threatening comments on a phone toward police officers.

Elvin Payamps was overheard talking about a plan to kill a police officer while on his cellphone inside the TD Bank, according to DNA Info. Another customer heard him speaking and reported him to the police, but Payamps left the bank before authorities arrived.

“I’m going to kill another cop,” he was heard saying. “We should do it before Christmas. The cop should have been white that was killed. I always have a gun on me.”

He was later found at Metro Mall two miles away and arrested.

Police searched his home and found two firearms, two bullet-resistant vests, brass knuckles and a holster.

One of the vests from the Brooklyn Detention Complex and belonged to a retired corrections officer. Payamps did not have the authority to take it.

It’s unclear how long Payamps worked for the DOC or what position he held. He was arrested on three weapons charges, aggravated harassment, unlawful use of a police uniform, having overly tinted windows and unlawful possession of marijuana.
