CHICAGO — A state correctional officer was shot during a standoff with Chicago police.
The man, whose name was not released, pulled a gun on police who were attempting to serve a warrant related to domestic battery charges, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Nearby homes were evacuated while a SWAT team was deployed. Officers made attempts to coax the man out of the building, including having family members speak to him, but were unsuccessful.
The man was shot around 3 a.m., several hours into the standoff.
SWAT sent gas canisters into the house in an effort to force him out, causing him to fire at police. They fired in return and struck him.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where his condition is currently unknown. Charges are pending.
He was wanted on a domestic battery and aggravated assault warrant after his wife filed a complaint and received an order of protection.
