NEW MEXICO — One of eight escapees from the Curry County jail has been sentenced to 10 years in prison on escape and other charges.
State District Judge Teddy Hartley ordered two years of supervised parole once Victor Sotelo, 26, is released from prison.
District Attorney Matthew Chandler said Sotelo pleaded guilty Wednesday to escape, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, aggravated fleeing from a law enforcement officer and child abuse. The abuse charge stems from his having a child along when he led police on a high-speed chase.
Sotelo and the others fled from the jail in Clovis last Aug. 24 through a hole in the roof. He was arrested eight days later in Albuquerque
One escapee, convicted child killer Edward Salas, remains at large.
