DALLAS COUNTY, Texas — The death of a man in the Dallas County jail lobby has been ruled a homicide, with contributing factors.
The Star-Telegram reports that a medical examiner ruled the death of Joseph Hutcheson, 48, was caused by the combined effects of cocaine and methamphetamine, compounded by heart problems due to high blood pressure and the stress associated with struggle and restraint.
Surveillance video shows Hutcheson acting erratically before being subdued by deputies and losing consciousness on August 1.
Hutcheson was restrained because he posed a threat to himself and others, according to the deputies.
Hutcheson’s family has scheduled a news conference to discuss the case. The sheriff’s office has not yet made a comment.
