CAMERON, Mo. — An officer with the Crossroads Correctional Facility in Cameron faces a long road to recovery after surviving a serious car accident.

News Press Now reports that Jake Buckallew suffered head trauma from the accident, causing him to forget in the middle of a task.

“He’s redeveloping those toddler years where it’s hard for him to, like, walk on his own,” Brianna Bland, Buckallew’s girlfriend, said. “He’s not very balanced. He’s forgetting how certain sentences come together. He’s got a little bit of a dirty mouth right now.”

Bland took off work to be by her boyfriend’s side during his recovery.

“He likes to be involved and he likes to care about people,” Bland said. “If you needed money, he would give you his whole entire paycheck to make rent, if that’s what you needed.”

Medical staff didn’t believe Buckallew would make it to this stage in his recovery, and Bland is credited with being a good influence by Buckallew’s mother, Joann.

A GoFundMe was established to help with Buckallew’s medical bills, as he didn’t have insurance at the time of the accident.
