TRENTON — Lance Lopez Sr. has formed an exploratory committee to determine if he will run for the seat vacated by Assemblywoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Mercer), elected last week to the 12th Congressional District.
“I have received an overwhelming amount of calls and emails from residents and county committee members urging me to consider running for Bonnie Watson Coleman’s seat since she won on Tuesday,” Lopez said in a news release. “I am forming this committee to determine if I will run for the open seat and will continue to meet with leaders of our community in Trenton, Ewing and the entire 15th Legislative District.”
Lopez, a Ewing resident, has worked as a corrections officer for 20 years, mostly at the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton. He was named president of PBA Local 105, which represents 12,000 corrections officers and retirees throughout the state, in June 2012.
