ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office made a $50,000 contribution toward the expansion of the Gulf Coast Kids House, and it’s all thanks to local felons.

The North Escambia reports that the donation was funded by the State Law Enforcement Fund, which allows law enforcement officers to use funds from contraband seized during the commission of felonies in the community.

The expansion will help the nonprofit better serve victims of child abuse in Escambia County. The donated funds will be used for a new medical examination room in the Advocacy and Education wing of the Gulf Coast Kids House, to be completed in 2015.
