BRAITHWAITE, La. – A nonprofit program in Louisiana rescues shelter dogs and has them trained by inmates in order to assist persons with disabilities.

DoggoneExpress, Inc., has placed nearly 200 dogs with forever homes, including that of Dozzer, who was two hours away from being euthanized, according to WWLTV.

The dogs are trained by inmates who participate through the program with the ST. Tammany Sheriff’s Office; dogs are also trained at two other state prisons.

Dozzer now lives and aids Jen Lopez, who was born blind. She’s also the victim of a violent crime and suffers from PTSD.

“When I met Dozzer, it was love at first sight. He obeyed me immediately,” Lopez said. “He’s made a very, very dramatic difference in my life. I feel safer. I haven’t had any PTSD spirals.”
