MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A Georgetown correctional officer was recently awarded by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy for his high academic achievement, according to a press release.
Correctional Officer James D. Law, 24, of Georgetown was the recipient of the Bert Friday Award on May 29 at a graduation ceremony of the basic jail training class held at the SCCJA.
The Bert Friday award is presented by the SCCJA and given to the student with the top academic performance. Law had the highest academic performance out of 46 graduates, according to the release.
“I am delighted James Law received such a prestigious award. I believe it shows his hard work and commitment to being a professional correctional officer,” Sheriff Lane Cribb said in a press release.
Law has been employed with the Georgetown County Detention Center since November 2014.
