BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The man charged with killing an Illinois State University student attacked a jail guard with a makeshift knife in an attempt to escape, prosecutors said Tuesday.

A guard found Wallace punching jail officer Olivia Anglin and restrained him, Campbell said. Anglin was hospitalized with stab wounds, bruising, facial fractures and eye injuries.

Wallace, 27, told detectives he was trying to escape, First Assistant State’s Attorney Kim Campbell told The (Bloomington) Pantagraph.

Wallaces faces new charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, assault with a deadly weapon and attempted escape. Bond was set at $1 million.

Wallace pleaded not guilty to charges he killed 21-year-old Olamide Adeyooye, whose body was found Oct. 21 in a Mississippi chicken house. The college senior had disappeared eight days earlier.
