NEWAYGO, Mich. — Video surfaced of a corrections officer tasing an inmate is at the heart of a jail lawsuit.

Inmate Victor Lamont Garcia is suing the Newaygo County Jail, its sheriff and four corrections officers after he was allegedly struck with a taser for no reason, according to FOX 17.

Garcia was told to return to his cell and kneel, which the video shows he did. He was then struck with a taser. There is no sound on the video.

Defense for the corrections officers claimed that Garcia “had an impaired ability to function due to the influence of intoxicating liquor or a controlled substance...”

It also claims that Garcia was then “50 percent or more the cause of the incident.”

Another officer responded to the allegations by saying they thought Garcia had a razor in his possession. Nothing was found on Garcia’s body or cell after a search.

The Newaygo County Jail declined to comment on the incident.
