MORGANTOWN, WV — Seven corrections employees have denied wrongdoing after a state prisoner said they used unnecessary force against him.
Wayne Hagan filed a complaint against the employees in federal court in May. Hagan said correctional officers beat him and dragged him out of his cell at Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville. Hagan says the confrontation - known as a cell extraction, in which several officers don protective gear and forcibly remove a prisoner from a cell - was unnecessary.
Hagan says he left the confrontation concussed and bleeding.
In an answer to Hagan’s complaint filed Friday, the prison employees denied the allegations and asked a federal judge to dismiss the case.
The 26-year-old Hagan is incarcerated at Mt. Olive Correctional Center on burglary charges. His projected release date in 2018.
