RACINE — A Racine Youthful Offender Correctional Facility officer has been charged after reportedly pointing his gun at a man while intoxicated.

The Journal Times reports that James Sosa was seen behind the wheel of a vehicle that was swerving across multiple lanes of traffic. When a man attempted to pass him, Sosa swerved into the other lane.

The man also saw Sosa speaking on his cell phone; when he yelled at him to get off the phone, Sosa waved him into a nearby parking lot, motioning that he wanted to speak outside the vehicle.

Sosa reportedly pulled in next to the man and then pointed a gun at him through an open driver’s side window.

The man reversed his vehicle and drove out of the parking lot, fearing for his life. Police were notified by a patron of the store that Sosa and the man had been parked near. Sosa entered the store to purchased alcohol, and was visibly intoxicated when he entered the store.

When asked about the incident, Sosa admitted to displaying his gun and racking the slide while pointing it. He claimed the other man had flipped him off, and that he had flipped him off in return.

He claimed that he feared for his safety and told the man he had a gun and then displayed it.

Sosa was taken to a nearby hospital for a blood draw, where he became difficult with police. He demanded officers’ badge numbers so he could file a complaint.
