MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputy who had a sexual assault charge against him thrown out on appeal last year was convicted Wednesday on four charges in the same courthouse incident in 2004.
Delano Terrell, 45, could face up to 18 years in prison when sentenced Sept. 14 on two felony counts of misconduct in public office, one of third-degree sexual assault and a misdemeanor count of fourth-degree sexual assault.
Terrell served as a court bailiff before the allegations that he made up a court date so that a female prisoner would be sent to the courthouse, and he then took her into the restroom of an empty jury room, pulled off her clothes and performed sex acts.
Sheriff David Clarke Jr. suspended Terrell after the allegations surfaced, but Terrell has continued to be paid.
After the jury’s four guilty verdicts, he was taken into custody.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kim Brooks said Clarke would renew his request to terminate Terrell when the county Personnel Review Board meets Aug. 28.
“We’re finally ridding ourselves of someone is not worthy of the public’s trust,” Clarke said in a prepared statement.
