DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — An inmate escaped after assaulting a corrections officer and stealing her keys.
Benjamin Lee Small, 23, attacked Officer Roxanne Powell with a shower head Saturday before stealing her keys and escaping, the Winston-Salem Journal reported. A foot pursuit ensued after the attack, but Small got away.
Powell was treated for two black eyes and released from the hospital.
Small is considered dangerous. Sheriff David Grice told the publication that a statewide alert has been issued for Small.
“We are running down different tips from different places,” Grice said. “We are actively searching for this individual.”
Small is a white man, 5 feet 1 inch tall with brown hair and hazel eyes. He has tattoos on both arms and was last seen wearing an orange jumpsuit
