ALICEVILLE, Ala. — A correctional officer at an Alabama federal prison has been indicted in the sexual assault of seven female inmates.
Felix Sylvester Wilder, 37, violated the civil rights of the women when he sexually assaulted them while they were behind bars at the Federal Correctional Institution in Aliceville, federal officials said Wednesday.
The eight-count indictment charges Wilder with deprivation of rights under the color of law.
It was announced by Northern District of Alabama Acting U.S. Attorney Catherine L. Crosby Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, Special Agent in Charge Eric Fehlman of the Department of Justice Office of Inspector General Southeast Regional Office, and FBI Special Agent in Charge David R. Fitzgibbons.
According to the indictment, the alleged assaults happened between May 2022 and September 2024.
“The defendant’s conduct resulted in bodily injury, included aggravated sexual abuse and an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, included kidnapping and an attempt to commit kidnapping,” charging documents state.
Wilder will be arraigned in March. If convicted of all the charges, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
