LINCOLN, Neb. — The last of three Nebraska inmates charged for a planned attack on correctional officers with improvised weapons inside a state prison in Lincoln entered a plea Friday.
The Nebraska State Patrol initially booked the men — Eric Ramirez, 34, John Meyers, 41, and Jonathan Gonzalez Salas, 23 — on suspicion of attempted murder for what happened May 31, 2023, at the Reception and Treatment Center.
The assault left five officers injured, one stabbed and kicked in the head, according to court records.
The three inmates, who since have been transferred to the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution, all ended up facing multiple counts of second-degree assault and weapons charges.
This month each of them, facing upcoming trials in August, entered pleas instead.
On July 8, Gonzalez Salas pleaded no contest to a single count. On July 22, Meyers did the same. Both are set for sentencing next month.
Then, on Friday, Ramirez pleaded no contest to two counts of second-degree assault on an officer and a single count of attempted second-degree assault.
He’s set to be sentenced in September.
