CHEROKEE COUNTY, S.C. — A Cherokee County corrections officer died in a two-vehicle crash while driving to work, the sheriff’s office said.

Correction Officer Timothy Norris, 29, was killed around 5:30 p.m. Aug. 30 on Highway 321 in Clover, Sheriff Steve Mueller said in a statement provided to WYFF.

Norris joined the Cherokee County Detention Center in May 2025 and graduated from the South Carolina Justice Academy in May 2026. He was married to his middle school sweetheart for 10 years, according to the sheriff’s office.

Mueller asked the community to keep Norris’ family and his colleagues at the sheriff’s office and detention center in their thoughts and prayers.

“The men and women of the Sheriff’s Office/Detention Center will lean on each other as we navigate this tragic loss of life to one of our own,” Mueller said. “We will work through this tragedy together.”
