GREENSBURG, Pa. — A female inmate in the Westmoreland County Prison was arraigned Tuesday on nine criminal counts for allegedly assaulting three guards who were attempting to search her cell last month.

Kara Rose Guy, 22, of Swissvale, was charged with six counts of aggravated assault and three counts of simple assault by county detectives in connection with the Sept. 28 incident at the Hempfield jail.

Hempfield District Judge Mark Mansour added $20,000 to her previously set $50,000 bond after her arrest for allegedly participating in two armed robberies of convenience stores in Monessen and Rostraver Aug. 3.

In the Sept. 28 incident, Det. James Williams reported in court papers that three female corrections officers entered Guy’s cell and were securing her to do a routine search of the area when Guy “resisted violently.”

Williams said the officers reported that Guy began “kicking and punching” the three officers while she was handcuffed. Williams said the three guards were eventually able to subdue Guy and complete the search.

Williams reported in court papers that the assaults were captured on security video in the cell block.

According to court records, Guy was first jailed Aug. 5 after her arrest by Monessen and Rostraver police for allegedly taking part in Aug. 3 armed holdups of a Sunoco gas station on Donner Avenue in Monessen and another at a Marathon station on Route 51 in Rostraver.

Court documents said Guy has also lived in Charleroi, Washington County.

Two Hagerstown, Md., men — Elijah Sayon, 22, and Rexford Enoch Prince Wright, 23 — also are in the county prison on $100,000 bond each awaiting Oct. 23 hearings for participating in the same holdups, according to court dockets.
