LAKE CITY, Fla. — The violent gang assault that left several inmates injured Thursday at a Florida prison marks the second incident of its kind in less than a week, the Miami Herald reported.
Inmates attacked one another with shanks before correctional officers at the Columbia Correctional Institution could intervene. Several inmates were airlifted to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.
No officers were hurt in the brawl.
The week’s previous inmate uprising took place last Friday at Hamilton Correctional Institution, about 40 miles away from CCI. According to the Herald, the fights may have been related; several inmates of the same gang from Hamilton had been transferred to CCI following Friday’s outburst.
