SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — An off-duty detention officer was hospitalized Wednesday after being shot in the head in her home.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Officer Amanda Moore, 34, had had a dispute with her 16-year-old stepdaughter before she was shot.

Another child who was in the home ran to a neighbor’s house. Police were sent to Moore’s home after the neighbor called 911.

Moore’s father, one of the responding sergeants, didn’t realize he was responding to his daughter’s home until he arrived at the scene. Spalding County Sheriff Darrell Dix wouldn’t allow Moore’s father to go inside the home and see his daughter in her condition.

A neighbor who is a nurse rushed over to provide medical aid to Moore, which probably gave her the chance to live, Dix says.

Moore was flown to a local hospital after the shooting and is in stable condition.

The 16-year-old girl was walking away from the scene when Dix pulled up and arrested her.

“She didn’t say anything,” he said. “She didn’t fight. It was literally nothing. It was just blank.”

Investigators are trying to charge the girl as an adult.
