Suspect dead, another in custody after CO shot at Ga. prison
An apparent contraband drop at Washington State Prison led to a deadly shootout involving a corrections officer

DAVISBORO, Ga. — One suspect is dead and another is in custody after a corrections officer was shot on the grounds of Washington State Prison.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the incident, which happened around 12:30 a.m. Monday, involved two men in the area planning to drop off contraband at the prison. Two officers responding to the drop got into a shootout with one of the men, resulting in an officer getting shot. The officer was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
One of the two men involved in the drop, whose name has not been released, was found dead in a nearby pond. The other suspect, Marquavious Rashad Parks, is in custody. He faces a charge of aggravated assault on an officer.
The investigation remains ongoing.
