2 jail guards accused of being drunk at bar

Chicago Tribune

CHICAGO — The Lake County sheriff’s department is investigating allegations of drunkenness and arrogant behavior by two corrections officers early Thursday morning at a Round Lake Heights bar, and it has put them on paid administrative leave pending the outcome, officials said.

“It’s the same old story, alcohol and arrogance,” Sheriff Mark Curran said, adding that details of the incident about 3 a.m. at Richard’s Chicken and Ribs are still unclear. “We’re looking into whether they used their position of authority in a manner that was unbecoming an officer.”

Curran said Round Lake Heights police do not expect to file criminal charges against the officers, who work in the Lake County Jail. Both are still on their probationary period, since they have been with the department for less than a year, Curran said.
