Contraband update: Razor in a flag patch

(John Clagett photo)

“The other day,” said John Clagett of the D.C. Airport in a secure email sent to Corrections1, “I was doing an exploratory bag check. Long story short, the owner claimed to teach survival, evasion, and escape training for DoD.”

What he found was a Flag patch - velcro style for ACU/BDUs - which concealed a razor, handcuff key, a bobby pin and other metal pieces.

“I decided to take pictures,” said Clagett, “because if this is what people are being taught to do, I’m sure we’ll start seeing it more and more.”

NOTE: The Velcro is thick with the flag glued over the items so they can be retrieved and used at a later time.

The thickness and rigid of the patch/Velcro make detection of the hidden items difficult. Unit or other patches can also be used and sewn on clothing for future use.
