A tactic that I find useful for domestic disturbances is after parking away from the location and making a tactical approach, pause near a window and, if possible, take a look inside to see what you can see...house layout, how many people you can see, are there any visible weapons, etc.
If you can’t see into a window, pause near the door/window and listen for anything that may give you an idea of what is happening inside. While this isn’t feasible in all situations, I have found it to be helpful on these types of calls by allowing me to have a little (sometimes a lot) more information than given to dispatch during the initial call.
Remember that the more information you can gather can help you perform your job better and keep you safe as well.
