A new documentary by the Interstate Commission for Adult Offender Supervision (ICAOS), in partnership with the National Institute of Corrections (NIC), follows the journey of incarcerated individuals who have been detained miles from home and have applied to be transferred closer to their families.

During a recent screening of “The Road Home,” attendees lauded the film for capturing the truth about interstate transfers, both the successes and the challenges that can make hard work of the process. ICAOS and its members were commended for their commitment to this important work and transferees received encouragement to maintain crime-free lifestyles.

The documentary also summarizes the history of the interstate compact, which formally gives states the legal ability to orchestrate successful transfers.
