NEW YORK — Prisons come in all shapes and sizes, but have you ever seen one that floats?
Gizmodo reports that the largest floating prison in the entire world is currently docked off the Bronx in Long Island Sound.
The Vernon C. Bain Correctional Center prison is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest operation prison ship in the world.
Created out of necessity due to overcrowding in the 1980s, the ship has evolved throughout the decades to house different types of prisoners.
It’s really no different than a conventional prison – it even has its own caged in rec yard, complete with basketball hoops.
