ATLANTA — Federal prosecutors say a former Georgia Department of Corrections worker has pleaded guilty to stealing from the victim restitution fund.
Authorities said Wednesday that 41-year-old Daynna Gregory of Lithonia pleaded guilty to theft of public funds and conspiracy. Prosecutors say 54-year-old Richard Cantrell of Marietta and 37-year-old Tammi Stephens of Forsyth, also pleaded guilty in the case earlier this year.
Prosecutors say Gregory worked in the department’s banking unit and was responsible for issuing checks from a restitution fund to compensate crime victims.
Officials say Gregory and Stephens issued more than $232,000 in fraudulent checks to a flower shop owned by Cantrell, who didn’t work for the department.
Cantrell was sentenced to two years in prison. Stephens will be sentenced July 31 and Gregory will be sentenced Sept. 24.
