CONCORD, New Hampshire — A man in prison for manslaughter has had his sentence reduced, thanks to help from the victim’s parents.

ABC News reports that Christopher Bazar pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2011 shooting death of his roommate and best friend, Donald St. Laurent.

Bazar admitted to drinking and smoking marijuana at the time of the incident. He’s since served three years in prison.

St. Laurent’s parents have advocated for leniency, and have offered Bazar shelter and a job. Bazar will live with the victim’s mother, Deborah St. Laurent, while the victim’s father, also named Donald St. Laurent, will give him a job with his construction company.

“He’s my other son,” said the victim’s mother. “My son loved him and I love my son more than life.”

It will likely be a few weeks before Bazar’s parole plan is finalized and he can leave the facility.
