TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Grand Traverse County jail officers found a surprise during a routine inmate body search last month — pot and suboxone stuffed in a body cavity.
Authorities arrested Joshua James Rose and brought him to jail March 27.
Two jail officers strip-searched him and found marijuana and suboxone strips in a hidden plastic baggie, according to court records.
Grand Traverse County prosecutors filed two prisoner possessing contraband charges — one for the marijuana, the other for the suboxone — against Rose Friday in 86th District Court.
Traverse City police Lt. Erich Bohrer said it is still illegal for inmates to bring marijuana into jails despite recreational use being legalized.
Rose was released from jail. He is scheduled to appear for arraignment on the charges in district court April 17, according to court records.
